I visited this place about 4 years ago and I really loved it then. Today, we spent 15 minutes looking for parking just to eat the matcha ice cream. It’s been raining, wet, and cold for Saturday evening. The line was long. There was one person working on the register and making the orders. So it took a while to get order, but that was ok I guess for how much I wanted to enjoy it. The place doesn’t take cash, so be prepared to pay with a credit card or debit. I was a bit disappointed when I got my ice cream in a plastic disposable cup compared to the nice black Japanese bowl that appeared in their menu picture.
The taste was as good as I remembered it. IT was so smooth almost between ice cream and frozen yogurt… just so creamy. The taste was matchawy I was disappointed again because they used to sprinkle matcha powder over the matcha ice cream. I didn’t get my matcha powder😔.
I did enjoy it. It was still worth coming, and I’ll certainly come back again.
Even though I do think this place is worth 5 stars, I discounted one star for missing matcha powder, long wait, and bench cushions are ripped badly.
Edit: this place is permanently closed
I have been waiting for the Amausaan at Clement to reopen for weeks now so drove all the way to this location. I would prefer the Clement location over this. No doubt this location has seating with beautiful ambiance. The matcha soft serve was less in quantity, tasted a little different, melted way too quick and no matcha powder sprinkled on the top, unlike the other location. We also ordered the matcha cheesecake which was good.
Came near the end of the day and unfortunately they out of a lot of things including both soft serve ice creams. Fortunately we were able to get other tasty desserts that satisfied our sweet tooth.
We ordered a take-away. Got a matcha drink with a scoop of ice cream on top and a crepe cake. The original/authentic taste and the atmosphere/decorations are amazing and reminded us of our trip to Japan. Prices are super high but the foods are worth every penny. Prepared to be waiting during their busy hours as they have one or two staff working during this less busy season and the covid!
The decor is very beautiful! It is a great place to take photos. This is a drink/dessert place where you get your order to go or sit down and eat. We went during a quiet time, but I can see it getting full fast. Overall everything was pretty good. The matcha soft serve such as in A5 Namacha Matcha Story is flavorful. However, it melts very quickly. They served us the matcha soft serve and it was already melting down the sides. I thought that was a bit weird. The matcha ice cream such as in the D2 Marukyu Uji Matcha Ice ball is not as flavorful. The staff is nice and knowledgeable about their large menu. It is a nice place to visit, and there is a metered parking lot behind their building.
I got the D6 which is the Ishita Shiratama Matcha Story.
I think this place is good if you are familiar with matcha desserts or really want to experience something new.
It’s not for everyone.
The D6 is a dessert that has a base of pudding (not too sweet), whip cream, and crunchy matcha soaked graham, matcha soft serve on top, red bean (not so sweet), and matcha cubed jelly (not sweet) and mocha balls (not sweet). So the sweetest part is the matcha soft serve. Then it is sprinkled with some toasted rice (almost like hojicha taste).
I appreciated this dessert because it’s not easy for me to get and is unique.
I think the price is reasonable because some of the desserts are high quality and can’t be cheapened.
I wouldn’t get anything with ice if you are looking for better value for price.
We did dine in on a Thursday night and we got our food very fast.
Great place if you love matcha. Lots of dessert varieties. I wish they put out description for each one. It's quite pricey, we spent over $18 for 2 items plus tax and tips.
Feels like I'm in Japan now! All the interior are pretty authentic and extremlly feels I'm in different place, not in Bay Area any more. Speak as all desserts, high quality and various sections, but some time they are sold out....
